#OneWord2019 Sample Activities for Your Classroom — Options for Using Pear Deck, Flipgrid, and Buncee #edtech

Our resolutions often focus on the person we are tired of being rather than the person we want to become. The purpose of this OneWord exercise is to focus on something positive — a one-word intention that can help serve as your guide throughout the year.

In my previous post, I shared my #OneWord2019 :: EMPOWER. I created that graphic in Buncee. In this post, I wanted to share some example prompts and directions that you can use to create a OneWord2019 activity in your classroom.

Idea 1: Have Students Respond in Pear Deck (Sample Template Included)

An easy option is to create a Pear Deck drawing slide to allow students to respond with their one-word focus. Here is a sample Pear Deck activity you can use: https://app.peardeck.com/student/tpafoqiua

Idea 2: Create a Flipgrid (Sample Topic Included)

You can have students write out their one-word intention on a piece of construction paper and then explain why they chose this word as their focus for the year ahead in a Flipgrid response.

Example prompt:

Choose one word to sum up what you want to focus on in the New Year.

1. Write your #OneWord2019 on a piece of paper
2. Open the Flipgrid topic: **insert your Flipgrid URL here**
3. Holding your word up, record a response to the question: why have you chosen this word as your focus for the year ahead?

Idea 3: Create in Buncee (Free Templates Available)

Buncee is a creation tool that allows you to create a presentation with a bunch of fun images and animations built into the platform. Buncee has created some #OneWord templates to make it easy for students to get started with this activity.

Here are instructions you can modify and use with your students —

1. Go to edu.buncee.com
2. Choose Sign in with Google
3. Tap Create on Buncee V3
4. Do a search for one word (if using a free account, choose from any of the options that do not have a lock next to them)

5. On the next screen, click Use This Template

6. Now you can begin Editing.

• Double click any of the text boxes to edit the text
• Click the + icon in the right sidebar to add any additional images, animations, text, drawings, etc. There is a ton of fun, free media in the Buncee library. Do a search for keywords you are looking for and enjoy browsing through what Buncee has to offer.
